Philip Castle – Airflow (3)
Another sample from the portfolio of retro airbrush master Philip Castle.
Judging by the livery of the jet in the top right, I’m guessing the image is a promotional piece for the ‘Blue Angels’ that’s the US equivalent of the UK’s ‘Red Arrows’ (basically fighter jets performing formation acrobatic stunts).
The original art is scanned from Philips Castle’s 1980 anthology “Airflow”.

Wow, I really love this piece. I think it is the “retro” feel that it has.
Nice find! 🙂
yeah I love kitsch airbrushing! from around 1980 I believe and Taken from Philips Book “Airflow”
Check out the graphics he did for “A Clockwork Orange”:

Cheers Russel,
I had seen his Clockwork Orange work before, but thanks for reminding, should do another post for Philip… BTW I think he did the Full Metal Jacket ‘Helmet’ for Kubrick too
Great Picture
I need to get in touch with Castle. Anyone know how? I will be in the UK in September – but last I knew he was in California. Just opened a gallery and would like to feature his work in an upcoming show. (813)294-2730. I have several pieces I bought when my last gallery was open.
