Syd Mead - Space Wreck

An excellent example of Sci-Fi Concept Design and semi-abstraction from world renowned American visual futurist Syd Mead. Image Taken from the 1978 Paper Tiger Book “Flight of Icarus”.

Sydney Jay Mead, commonly Syd Mead, (born July 18, 1933 in St. Paul, Minnesota, United States) is an industrial designer best known for his vehicle designs in science-fiction films such as Blade Runner, Aliens, and Tron. Knights of the Crystallion

Knights of the Crystallion

Another example of box art from the early 90s’s, Knights of the Crystallion (great title!) was a third person RPG mix of puzzling solving and exploring made solely for the Commodore Amiga in 1990 -  so I think it’s safe to say, fairly obscure. Whats so appealing about this cover? it’s a smoke breathing Crystal Stallion hatching from an egg!

Knights of the Crystallion is an interesting looking Fantasy Game and one I’d never heard of until recently, read more at: http://www.mobygames.com/game/amiga/knights-of-the-crystallion

 Sue Dawe - Wings

Here’s a switch of mood, a piece of super-light fantasy art from American Artist Sue Dawe.

If we take the sliding scale between dark fantasy and light and then apply it to a Geophysical model of earth;  Ian Miller’s work lies somewhere in Antarctica and this must surely represent Magnetic North, with Athena Airbrushed Unicorns at the very top (I’ll scan them soon!) – Giger’s horror by the way is somewhere else completely.

Sue Dawe specializes in sweet and saccharin Fantasy Art, if that’s your thing definitely check her site out http://home.simplyweb.net/suedawe/gallery.html
